Build a world where all youth girls are safe

The practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), also referred to as female circumcision or female genital cutting, involves the partial or complete removal of external female genitalia for non-medical reasons. Although it is a deeply ingrained cultural practice in some communities, especially in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, it is a harmful practice that violates human rights and has severe physical and psychological consequences for affected women and girls. FGM can increase the risk of infections, chronic pain, infertility, childbirth complications, and even death.

Female genital mutilation has become a very difficult issue to solve in our indigenous communities. Although many legal systems have been put in place to strictly prohibiting FGM but we still see continued by secret  in our communities.

In our indigenous societies, many people think that female genital mutilation prevents a girl from engaging in sexual intercourse, reducing sexual pleasure at a young age. Many families after FGM stop their children from going to school to get married and this causes a girl to not accomplish her dreams.

Early Marriage (girls forced marriage age below 16) leads them to get pregnant and eventually having difficulty giving birth. These are ancient traditions in which a girl child does not have the freedom to choose.
Our indigenous communities have been very abusive to girls because they have no voice in the society. The reasons for FGM: FGM is often practiced as a cultural tradition, and some communities believe it is necessary to preserve a girl’s chastity and ensure marriageability. It is also seen as a rite of passage into womanhood. The consequences of FGM: FGM has severe physical and psychological consequences, including chronic pain, infections, menstrual problems, infertility, childbirth complications, and psychological trauma. There are so many indigenous girls that had dreams in their study, But they did not get any support and their family dropped them to get forced childhood marriage. It is important to raise awareness about FGM and work to end this harmful practice. Education and community engagement are key to changing attitudes and ending FGM once and for all. Empowerment of and investment in girls are keys in breaking the cycle of discrimination and violence in promoting and protecting.
